Q&A

Q. What was it that drew you to Armanino?

I’ve been in public accounting since 1988, always focused on tax. During my career, I’ve also worked in tax and accounting software implementation and support. Armanino is a firm with a strong tax department and an inclination toward technology. That was the perfect combination for someone with my experience and interests.

Q. What do you predict the future will look like for clients in the industries you serve?

Technology and automation will shape the future of all businesses, but they will be especially impactful in the professional services industries. The ability to analyze data to help with decision-making will become critical. Companies need to have accurate information to stay ahead of the curve and make the right choices.

Q. Who is (or was) the most influential person in your life?

Although I’ve never told her, my wife Tracey is one of the most influential people in my life. Tracey is fearless and she can do anything that she sets out to accomplish. She founded a nonprofit and ran a child transportation business, before Uber even existed, while raising our two sons. In addition to her day job as chief marketing officer at a technology company, Tracey is currently running a health tech startup.

Q. If you could pass on a nugget of wisdom to aspiring accountants or consultants, what would that be?

It’s not about putting the numbers on the forms, it’s about the bigger picture of helping clients. Focusing too much on the numbers doesn’t allow you to see the forest through the trees. While the numbers are important, you also need to understand how you can help the team.

Q. What do you love most about your work?

Working with dynamic people, both as coworkers and as clients. Helping others solve problems and bringing innovative ideas to the table is fulfilling. But throughout my long career, one of my favorite things has always been sending people birthday text messages to show how much I care.
