Q&A

Q. What was it that drew you to Armanino?
There is an energy and a willingness to try new things here. The firm embraces change and is committed to finding the best solutions, for clients and for its own internal operations.
Q. What is the toughest decision you have ever made?
I decided to transfer from Northern Arizona University to USC, because USC had an extremely competitive accounting program. Northern Arizona was also a good accounting school, and it would have been easier for me to stay there, but I chose what was best for my education.
Q. Without naming names, tell us about your favorite client and why you enjoyed working with them.
I worked on a complex engagement for one of my big homebuilder clients. It was difficult from a management standpoint but really rewarding, because I got to be directly involved in the construction of projects from the very beginning. Every year new entities were being formed, new projects built and new issues addressed. The work was challenging, exciting and fun.
Q. What keeps you up at night?
Right now I am overseeing a huge software integration project here at Armanino. It involves more than 600 employees and will further enhance our ability to perform audits. It’s a big challenge, but I’m passionate about always looking for better ways to work and serve our clients.
Q. Describe your work style.
I coached basketball for many years, and I really enjoy helping people learn, improve and succeed. I like to challenge and be challenged by the people I work with. I enjoy having staff come talk to me, and they know they can walk in my office and say what they think. I may agree, I may disagree, but we’ll discuss the issue and find the best answer.
Q. If you could pass on a nugget of wisdom to aspiring accountants or consultants, what would that be?
Accounting is hard work, and the people who succeed are those who persevere. Be patient, keep an even keel through the highs and lows, and stay positive and forward-thinking.
