Q&A

Q. What is the toughest decision you have ever made?
I had to tell a client that they were not ready for a big milestone. The client had put a lot of effort and years of work into the project, but my team reported there were data issues that needed to be fixed before going live. I knew it would be difficult to communicate this back to the client, so I gathered the facts and presented them with how we would solve the problem. By pointing out the benefits of a plan, it was easier to have a conversation and show the client this was the right thing to do.
Q. What law or regulation in the accounting industry would you like to see changed?
Right now, we don’t have a lot of rules and regulations for Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) ratings and an understanding of the requirements that go into becoming a B Corporation. It’s more of an opt-in. I think this is an area where I hope to see a culture shift and that laws catch up to it.
Q. Describe your work style.
My work style is around creating safety and positive energy. I’m all about brainstorming and working collaboratively to co-create with my team. I encourage people to implement their ideas and offer support by removing any blocks. As a coach, I believe that my role is to help my team become better.
Q. What’s your proudest moment?
I am most proud of myself for finding my authentic leadership style. When I joined the firm 10 years ago, I thought you had to be a certain type of leader to become a partner. By looking within and seeing others who had become partners, I found my own management style and achieved my dream.
Q. Who is (or was) the most influential person in your life?
My grandmother was my role model. Even though she grew up in India and didn’t have access to a formal schooling, my grandmother never let anything stop her. She always encouraged my ideas, supported my goals and instilled the value of education in all her kids and grandkids.
Q. If you could pass on a nugget of wisdom to aspiring accountants or consultants, what would that be?
Learning and evolving allow you to deliver the best results to your clients. By reading books or articles and watching videos, you can absorb years of research in hours or minutes. Take advantage of that opportunity to continue gaining knowledge.
