Q&A

Q. What is it about accounting and consulting that first drew your interest?
I love numbers, and in college I worked for a sole proprietor to test the waters and see if I liked accounting. When I saw that it also involves an element of helping people and solving problems, I knew that public accounting was the life for me.
Q. Make a prediction and describe your vision of the future business environment for your area of expertise or the industries you serve.
We will continue to use technology as a driver for efficiencies, but personal connection will be increasingly important. As people are inundated with more and more information, they don’t just want to receive it, they want to talk about it and have someone help interpret what it means for them.
Q. Without naming names, tell us about your favorite client and why you enjoyed working with them.
In general, my most enjoyable relationships are collaborative team efforts where there is appreciation on both sides. My clients and I share ideas and bounce them off of each other while working toward a goal together.
Q. Describe your work style.
Supportive and fluid, with both my staff and clients. When you work with a lot of different personalities, there is no one-size-fits-all approach. You have to assess each situation and adapt.
Q. What’s your proudest moment?
When my daughters display intelligence, caring, independence and self-sufficiency.
Q. If you could pass on a nugget of wisdom to aspiring accountants or consultants, what would that be?
Working in a business that is so analytical, we often stop paying attention to what our body tells us is going on. We need to reconnect to that. Listen to your gut and trust your instincts.
