Q&A

Q. What is it about accounting and consulting that first drew your interest?
I started my public accounting career as an auditor. I enjoyed the frequent, personal contact I had with clients, as well as learning about many industries ~ at companies of all sizes. I also developed an understanding of how finance departments operate. I especially enjoyed helping my clients solve problems. Later, I got into accounting software and was able to apply my knowledge of improving business processes to deploy accounting solutions that make companies more efficient and competitive.
Q. What can we learn from our past in your business?
Life is short and you have to work hard, have fun and keep clients happy. I strive to work with good people that have the same high standards of business ethics and values that I do.
Q. Make a prediction, describe your vision of the business future.
Massive change is sweeping through the finance organization that can no longer be ignored. The CFO/Controller is more challenged than ever with fewer resources, tighter budgets, greater demands, and increased need for financial visibility. Wholesale migration of On-Premise systems to Software as a Service (SaaS), or Cloud solutions, that readily and effectively solve those challenges, will be the de-facto standard for finance in the future.
Q. Without naming names, tell us about your favorite client and why you enjoyed working with them.
I’ve been working with the VP Finance and Controller of a fast growing company that went from 65 employees to more than 300 in the span of 1 year. Due to outside demands to deploy a SOX-compliant accounting solution, we rapidly implemented Intacct’s Cloud Financials solution, on time and on budget. In the subsequent 2 years, the fast-growing business closed 2 additional rounds of funding, acquired several competitors, and had one of the hottest IPOs of 2014! The implementation of Intacct’s Cloud Financials immediately improved the culture of their accounting department by reducing stress and overtime, and empowering their finance team with a tool to improve their productivity and accounting processes. When we started, their monthly close was 45 days. Now it is down to 8 days. The Board gets their reports on a timely basis, with drilldowns and insights into multi-dimensional data to enable optimal decision-making. Working with this Client has been delightful – to be part of such a huge success story has been great, but to make a difference to the daily work lives of an awesome finance team has been most rewarding!
Q. Describe your work style.
I’m very team focused. I’m agile and I know that I can make a decision very rapidly. I trust my own knowledge and instincts and that trust has paid off. That’s not to say that I’ve never made a mistake; I have. However, I’m equally adept at shifting in midstream when an idea doesn’t happen to be working and come up with an alternate solution that does work, sometimes even better than originally planned.
Q. What’s your proudest moment?
Personally, it was the birth of my children. In business, I have been most proud of winning the AICPAs “Women to Watch” award in 2010. I was selected because of my leadership and the positive impact and influence my work has had on the accounting and consulting profession.
