Q&A

Q. What is it about accounting and consulting that first drew your interest?
Coming from an entrepreneurial family, my first interest in accounting came from a desire to gain an understanding of the financial aspects of business enterprises. I had originally intended to own my own business, but as I progressed through the profession, I realized that I really enjoyed it and decided that I would make accounting my business.
Q. What was it that drew you to Armanino?
Armanino’s vision of integrated services was a bulls-eye for me. I had reached the conclusion that it was optimal to surround clients in the finance area with a solution that satisfies all their needs with tax, audit and consulting. By embracing this philosophy, Armanino is committed to providing a holistic approach towards clients and that’s what drew me in.
Q. What law or regulation in the accounting industry would you like to see changed?
I’d like to see the Alternative Minimum Tax eliminated. I don’t think it’s fair that many of the techniques used to minimize liabilities for regular tax purposes can’t be applied for AMT purposes. It adds an unnecessary complexity to the tax code.
Q. Describe your work style.
Collaborative, with clients, partners and staff. I see Armanino as a team, like a sports team. It’s important that teams work well together in order to achieve their goals. I played a lot of sports growing up and was always happiest in team environments.
Q. Who is (or was) the most influential person in your life
My father has been the biggest influence on my life. He was an extraordinarily bright and hard working person. Some of the values he taught me include integrity, humility and applying the golden rule throughout life.
Q. If you could pass on a nugget of wisdom to aspiring accountants or consultants, what would that be?
Embrace learning and be curious. Learn how best to work with people, it’s something that’s integral to finding success. Take the extra time to become knowledgeable in particular subject areas that you find interesting. Ultimately you’ll master it.
